Flowerhead of the Pikao, Pingao or Golden Sand Sedge (Ficinia spiralis [syn. Desmoschoenus spiralis]), a sedge endemic to New Zealand that helps bind sand dunes by trapping wind-blown sand with its long rhizomatous roots and foliage crown.
