Peach (Prunus persica), an 8m tall deciduous tree that originated in China, but which is now cultivated throughout the temperate zones for its delicious edible fruit. The skin of peaches is downy or fuzzy, while nectarines, which are cultivars of the same species, are smooth-skinned. This cultivar is 'Golden Queen', which is widely grown and particularly popular in New Zealand where it was raised in 1908. It is a late-ripening clingstone. Order: Rosales, Family: Rosaceae
