Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii), a 30m tree native to Japan and South Korea. It is a tree that often develops a sculptural form, being easily shaped by the wind, and which grows in unlikely places, such as hanging off cliffs or growing over rock. Consequently, it is often seen in Japanese prints and used as a bonsai subject. It produces an abundance of small cones. Order: Pinales, Family: Pinaceae
