The ripe seedpods of Mountain Flax (<i>Phormium colensoi [syn. Phormium cookianum]), an evergreen perennial with long sword-shaped leaves. A native of New Zealand, it is easily confused with the very similar but generally considerably larger. Phormium tenax. Also, Phormium colensoi has greenish yellow flowers and twisted seed pods, as opposed to the reddish flower and smooth seed pods of Phormium tenax. Order: Asparagales, Family: Asphodelaceae
