Japanese Pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira), an evergreen shrub native to southern Japan. It is grown for its lustrous green foliage and its spring- to early summer-borne clusters of small white to cream flowers, which are mildly scented. When ripe, the seedpods split open to reveal orange seeds. Although capable of reaching 10m tall, it is usually far smaller in cultivation and can be trimmed as a hedge. Order: Apiales, Family: Pittosporaceae
