The spring foliage of the Heart-leaved Disanthus or Redbud. Hazel (<i>Disanthus cercidifolius</i>), a deciduous shrub around 4m tall x 2m wide, native to Japan and China. It is the sole species in its genus and is a member of the witch hazel family. The heart-shaped foliage resembles that of the Redbud or Judas. Tree (<i>Cercis</i>), hence the specific and common names, and is the main attraction of the plant as it develops bright orange red and purple autumn colours.
