The spring foliage of the Heart-leaved Disanthus or Redbud. Hazel (Disanthus cercidifolius), a deciduous shrub around 4m tall x 2m wide, native to Japan and China. It is the sole species in its genus and is a member of the witch hazel family. The heart-shaped foliage resembles that of the Redbud or Judas. Tree (Cercis), hence the specific and common names, and is the main attraction of the plant as it develops bright orange red and purple autumn colours.
