Early autumn foliage colour of Disanthus cercidifolius, a deciduous shrub around 4m tall x 2m wide, native to Japan and China. It is the sole species in its genus and is a member of the witch hazel family. The foliage resembles that of Cercis, hence the specific name, and is the main attraction of the plant as it develops purple, then bright orange red autumn colours. The tiny, paired, dark purple flowers open in autumn and are inconspicuous and unscented. disanthus-2876htm'>Disanthus. Hamamelidaceae.
