Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' (syn 'Pissardii. Nigra'), a cherry plum with deep purplish red foliage and small, single, white flowers that open from pink buds. It is similar to 'Pissardii' but can be distinguished by its darker, more intensely coloured foliage and its dark cherry-red, red-fleshed fruit, as opposed to the maroon-red, yellow-fleshed fruit of 'Pissardii' . Cherry plums are edible and taste much like regular plums, though they need to be fully ripe and do not keep for long. Order: Rosales, Family: Rosaceae
