The limestone rocks at Punakaiki, New Zealand are renowned for being composed of many layers, which gives them the name pancake rocks. Although this name is really only applied to those found near the coast, this layered limestones extends through much of the region. Because of the abundant rainfall, myriad plants can be found growing on the rock.
