Veronica ochracea (syn. Hebe ochracea), an evergreen shrub native to the high-country areas of western Nelson in New Zealand's South Island It grows to around 50cm high x 1m wide and has very distinctive golden scaly leaves that are held tightly to the stems. This braided form of foliage among the hebes is known as 'whipcord'. Small white flowers appear in summer. Order: Lamiales, Family: Plantaginaceae
