The autumn foliage of the Nikko Maple (Acer maximowiczianum [syn. Acer nikoense]), a 15m tall deciduous tree found from Japan to central China. Its leaves are composed of three large individual leaflets with downy undersides, each up to 10cm long. The foliage can become vivid red in autumn but often develops little colour.
