Open seedpods of Prickly Moses (Acacia verticillata subsp. ruscifolia). Note how several of the seeds have small holes drilled in them by emerging weevil larvae that have eaten the seed from inside. Subspecies ruscifolia is a broader leaved form of a late winter to early spring-flowering evergreen shrub or tree to 9m tall native. It occurs in isolated spots in southern Victoria on the Australian mainland but is found mainly in western Tasmania. Its bronze-green foliage is tipped with short, fine spines. Order: Fabales, Family: Fabaceae
