A cut away flower of Chinese Trumpet Vine (Campsis grandiflora), showing the 4 stamens and single pistil. This vigorous, deciduous, summer-flowering climber is native to China and Japan. In light soil it often suckers profusely. Note the two-lobed stigma, which can open and close in reaction to the touch of pollinators and the amount of pollen deposited, approximately 350 grains being required to fully pollinate the flower and cause the lobes to stay closed. Order: Lamiales, Family: Bignoniaceae
