A Nodding Thistle or Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans) with fastigated flower heads, a deformity where several stems appear to fuse together to create a broad, flattened stem. This biennial thistle is native to Eurasia but is now a widespread weed in many temperate and subtropical areas of both hemispheres. It can grow to as much as 15m tall, is spiny all-over and the flowerheads are usually nodding, though they can be held horizontal or semi-erect. The yellow flowers are tree lupin (Lupinus arboreus).
