The dried remains of a Nodding Thistle or Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans) after it has shed most of its seed. This biennial thistle is native to Eurasia but is now a widespread weed in many temperate and subtropical areas of both hemispheres. It can grow to as much as 15m tall, is spiny allover and the flowerheads are usually nodding, though they can be held horizontal or semi-erect. Order: Asterales, Family: Asteraceae
