Sweet Corn, Maize or Corn (Zea mays), a robust annual grass from Central America grown for its edible seed heads (cobs). There are many cultivars. Those with sweet seeded cobs grown for human consumption are known as sweet corn, while those grown for the high sugar and starch content of the cobs and stems, which makes them ideal animal fodder, are more commonly called maize or just corn. As shown here, it can have fairly high water demands. Order: Poales, Family: Poaceae
