Bulbils on the spent flower stem of an Octopus Agave or Amole (Agave vilmoriniana), a large rosette-forming monocarpic succulent native to Mexico, where it occurs at elevations of up to 1700m. The thick, fleshy leaves are smooth-edged, relatively narrow on mature plants and often have a slight longitudinal twist. The flower stems are up to 3.5m tall and when developing the buds of the creamy yellow flowers are protected by a dense covering of narrow pinkish-purple bracts that are almost hair-like at the tip of the flower stem. The bulbils can be broken off and grown on as new plants. Order: Asparagales, Family: Asparagaceae
