Stout Dwarf Broom (Carmichaelia monroi), an early summer-flowering, leafless shrub found in the mountains of the eastern South Island of New Zealand from southern Marlborough to South Canterbury. It grows on scree and unstable rocky slopes at elevations up to around 1500m elevation. It forms a dense mound around 15-25cm high x 40-100cm wide. Carmichaelia astonii and Carmichaelia vexillata are similar species. Order: Fabales, Family: Fabaceae
