Mexican Boulder (Calibanus hookeri [syn. Dasylirion hookeri]), an evergreen perennial native to northern central Mexico. Closely allied to Nolina, it has long, narrow, blue-green leaves and sprays of small pink flowers followed on female plants by purple-brown fruits, but the most distinctive feature is the large thickened root-cum-stem, or caudex. This can be up to 90cm wide on mature plants and is a reserve for times of drought. calibanus-2620htm'>Calibanus.
