Mexican Poppy or Mexican Prickly Poppy (Argemone mexicana), a short-lived, summer-flowering perennial found in Mexico and the extreme southwest of the United States. It thrives in poor soil and is quick to colonise bare ground, which has helped to naturalise in many areas. Its prickly thistle-like foliage makes it unpleasant to handle. Although poisonous, it has been used in herbal medicines. Order: Ranunculales, Family: Papaveraceae
