Amanita australis, a poisonous fungus native to New Zealand that usually first appears in mid- to late summer after rain. It is most often found in the leaf litter of Southern. Beech (<i>Nothofagus</i>) trees but can occur elsewhere, though almost always in association with leaf mould.
