Female flower tassels of maize (Zea mays), a robust annual grass from Central America. Most often this crop is grown for animal fed or ground meal production. Increasingly, though, maize is grown for producing biomass for ethanol production or for silage. This is a cultivar with deep golden to red kernels, a colouration that is also seen in the tassels on the cobs. Order: Poales, Family: Poaceae
