Amelanchier canadensis, a deciduous shrub or small tree up to 8m tall It is native to eastern North America and in spring is covered in white flowers that are followed by small purple-black fruits. In cultivation this species is often confused with Amelanchier lamarckii, but is most readily distinguished by its tendency to be shrubby rather than tree-like and by its ready production of suckers.
