The maturing berries of the Red Baneberry or Chinaberry (Actaea rubra), a spring-flowering woodland perennial native to North America. The plant is around 45cm tall when in bloom and produced fluffy heads of tiny white flowers. The fruits that follow, which are poisonous, are initially pale green, becoming white and then finally turning to red. In forma neglecta the fruits remain white and do not redden, even when ripe.
