The distinctive growing tip of the Norfolk Pine (Araucaria heterophylla). Endemic to Norfolk Island, this tree has the unusual habit of being very upright despite constant exposure to wind, which makes it a very popular coastal tree in areas that are mild enough to support it. The branches occur in whorls and develop from the tip growth seen here. Order: Pinales, Family: Araucariaceae
