Japanese Ginger or Myoga Ginger (Zingiber mioga), a Japanese herbaceous perennial with stems to 1m tall and leaves up to 30cm long. Its inflorescences are up to 10cm long and are composed of small cream flowers with dark basal markings. Unlike most gingers, its is not roots that are eaten, but the young shoots and the flowers buds, which are shredded and used as a garnish. Order: Zingiberales, Family: Zingiberaceae
