Calathea crocata, a tropical, evergreen, rhizomatous perennial native to Brazil. It is notable for its dark bronze-green leaves, which have purple-red undersides and for its flowerheads, which are composed of vivid orange bracts that enclose small red and orange flowers. The flowerheads are borne on stems that hold them above the foliage and the bracts are translucent.
