Toothache Plant (Acmella oleracea [syns. Spilanthes oleracea, Spilanthes acmella]), a tender, summer-flowering perennial native to Brazil. A member of the daisy family (Asteraceae), its flowerheads have no ray florets and are interestingly shaped. The leaves have both culinary and medicinal uses, with a pungent flavour and mild analgesic or anaesthetic effects, hence the name Toothache Plant. Order: Asterales, Family: Asteraceae
